TRAVELING TO

Rome, Italy

Please make your arrangements as soon as possible for the best rates and availability!

Rome will be buzzing with excitement throughout 2025 as it celebrates the Jubilee, making it a particularly busy time to visit. To ensure you secure the best deals and availability, we highly recommend booking your flights, accommodations, and any desired tours as early as possible. This way, you can avoid inflated prices and the disappointment of sold-out experiences. Don’t miss your chance to explore this incredible city during such a vibrant occasion!

GETTING IN

AIRPORT

We recommend flying into the Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino International Airport!

TIPS & TRICKS

TRAINS

High speed trains are a great way to get around the country if you want to see any other cities, or get to and from the airport from within the city of Rome.

We recommend using HighSpeedTrains.com (linked below) to book your train tickets, their website is in English and the currency is in US dollars, which makes it easy to book.

UBER

They do have Uber in Rome, however the only options available are a Black Car, a Van, or you can order a Taxi through the app.

We ordered a Van through Uber to take us from the train station to our hotel and had a great experience. It was perfect for the four of us and all our luggage.

TAXI'S

For the most part, we recommend just walking around the city but if you need to take a taxi, here are a couple tips.

  • The taxi's in Rome have a fixed rate to and from the airport, which is 55 euros, and close to an hour drive depending on traffic.

  • Your hotel can always order you a taxi, super quick and easy, the taxi usually arrives within 5 minutes.

  • If you aren't at your hotel and need to order a taxi, flagging one down can sometimes be difficult. You can download the app FreeNow, it is basically Rome's version of Uber that you can call a taxi with. I recommend using FreeNow to call a taxi before trying Uber.

  • Taxi's do take credit card payments, they have to by law, however.. they prefer and push for cash payments. Paying with cash is definitely the quicker option.

TIPPING

Tipping in Italy is different than the US, so here are some tips to tip appropriately.

  • Restaurants & Bars -
Their wait staff makes a salary and does not survive on tips. The standard is leaving 1-2 euros per person or you can leave more if your service was above and beyond. Keep in mind you will not get the same kind of service as you do in the US, they don't constantly check on you, and you will have to request the check when you are ready to pay.

  • Taxi's -
You don't have to leave a tip, but if you had a good driver, you can always round up to the nearest euro, or leave a 1-2 euro tip.

FINDING THE BEST FOOD

There are a lot of great food options in Rome, but don't let the tourist traps fool you. Here are some tips on how to find the best places to eat.

  • Avoid the restaurants with staff outside calling you and insisting you sit down, the food won't be as good or authentic.

  • Try strolling down side streets to find small the small hole in the wall spots with no one outside calling you in.

  • Try to avoid restaurants with massive menus with lots of options, the food tends to be subpar as they are trying to cater to tourists. And definitely avoid restaurants with food displayed on a table out front.

  • The best gelato places store their gelato in enclosed silver tins.. not piled high on display.
